Sunday, 19 April 2009

This week was dedicated to hardcore beach practices!  After our last indoor tournament at the Tampa convention center, we were anxious to hit the sand on Monday.  This was also our testing week in the weight room, which we were also excited about. The majority of us were able to increase our bench press, back squat, chin ups, and vertical!

Week 14 - Rising Seniors...Last Spring Indoor Competition Print E-mail
Sunday, 12 April 2009

This was the last week of indoor practices as well as our last indoor tournament of spring. I must say that feeling like a senior feels I was a little sad and I had to contain my tears when we circled up and did our last weekly report of spring practices. I can’t explain exactly how I felt, but its like everything is coming to an end.

Week 13 - "Team" Week Print E-mail
Sunday, 05 April 2009

The week started as a usual week. Practice on Monday and Tuesday with early morning workouts. We were thrown a curveball when the coaches announced that we would also be practicing on Wednesday, our usual day of optional training. We handled the last minute change and practiced well. This did have a toll on our bodies since our weights have gone up significantly in the past two weeks.

The Monday after spring break is always joyful and sad at the same time; sad because spring break is over, but happy because running at 6 am seems somehow easier. We are at the beginning of 4-week tournament spree and the team is excited about playing again, after such a long time of preparation.

Week 10 - Getting Better Print E-mail
Sunday, 15 March 2009
Practice was cut short a few days this week and we did not get the full 3-hour practices like everyone wanted I believe that the time we did get was well spent. We worked our tails off this week and everyone can tell that we are getting better as a team and as individuals.

Week 9 - From 8 to 20 Print E-mail
Sunday, 08 March 2009
The first nine weeks of Spring Season went great. There was only one week of practice that we didn’t do quite as well as we hoped. But, all of the girls on the team from previous years said that compared to last year, that was a huge improvement form other years. I think the shows that we are in a great position to improve so much and have an amazing season Laughing

With two solid months of hard work in the weight room and on the volleyball court, the USF volleyball team has been keeping a steady pace of good work ethic and positive attitudes. We have been limited to two hours a week in the gym so far, but have found a way to utilize our gym time and take it upon ourselves to push and challenge each other on the court.

Week 5 - New Schedule Print E-mail
Sunday, 08 February 2009
This week was interesting. It was our first week going Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday all in a row for weights and conditioning in the morning. We were not used to it at all, but were able to overcome this hurdle and still work hard and push through it every day. I know it has started making us mentally tougher especially not having the Wednesday off in the middle of the week.

Week 4 - Invincible Unit Print E-mail
Sunday, 01 February 2009

Last week was a rough one. Our conditioning and weights were changed and became more challenging. Basketball court sprints are our new thing, and I think most of us feel like dying every morning, but we help each other through it like real teammates do. And by the end of conditioning when our bodies want to fall apart, we start up weights, and somehow we manage to get through that as well.

Sunday, 25 January 2009

Week three was a total success in everyone’s book. The intensity of both practices was amazing and I believe that every one of the players improved from the two short hours of practice. Going to practice this week was just the best part of every ones day and you could read that on our faces and feel it in our energy.

Week 1 - Back to School! Print E-mail
Sunday, 11 January 2009
After a long and relaxing winter break, the USF volleyball team was ready to make their 6 am wake up call. It was something that I (being a freshman) was very anxious about. As we stepped up to the line of our home floor in The Corral, we knew this would be the start of a positive and performance-changing spring season. We ran suicides and with heavy lungs, made our way to the weight room for the strength part of the morning. We all got through our first lifting session like champs.

Week 13 @ Big East Conference Tournament Print E-mail
Sunday, 23 November 2008

Going into the Big East tournament, we all had stars in our eyes. A season goal had been met and we were all ready to do damage.  Coming in as the eighth seeded team in the tournament, we were ready to show people what we were made of.  The week's practice brought intensity and a sense of readiness to take on the top teams of the Big East.  We headed out on Wednesday to the bitter cold of Pittsburgh where there was plenty of snow to look at and marvel over.

Week 12 – Home vs Villanova / Senior Day Print E-mail
Sunday, 16 November 2008

Saturday we had practice and for the last hour the parents were allowed to come watch.  After practice, all the underclassmen put together some great posters and rap/rhyme/poems for the seniors.  Myself, Brittany, Marcela and Alli O had Nakia.  We made her a poster with a little letter from each of us on it saying how much we appreciated her and will miss her.  Marcela made a wonderful rap and Britt and her mom made their unforgettable ice cream cake.  Alli A, Caitlyn, Mari and Mollie made a poster for Augi.  They also put together a lovely scrapbook with letters from the whole team included.

This past weekend was one of the most exhilarating throughout the entire season. Before this weekend we were 5-7. The two teams we had to face were Seton Hall on Friday and Villanova on Sunday. It came down to these two matches. Between Seton hall and us, whoever won was going to the tournament. This weekend was parents weekend as well and as our parents started to arrive on Thursday and Friday, everyone started getting really pumped up.

Week 11 @ St Johns & UConn Print E-mail
Sunday, 09 November 2008

Coming home yesterday was probably one of the toughest days of my life. Yeah, we made light of it by playing games on the plane, but I had a huge test to study for and we were all exhausted. On the weekend, we lost both volleyball games. We went up there to prove ourselves in the Big East and to secure our place in the tournament. I don’t know what happened.

Week 10 @ Cincinnati & Louisville Print E-mail
Sunday, 02 November 2008

After a blissful three week stand at home, the Bulls were finally “on the road again,” heading to face the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Louisville Cardinals. The trip was off to a fun start. Some of the girls cashed in their Bulls Bucks [a team reward system] and breaking out their jeans. As we boarded the plane, thoughts of our excellent week of practice filled our heads, giving us a sense of confidence that we haven’t always felt before games. We knew we were truly ready to take on our opponents, and whole-heartedly believed that we were going to defeat the Bearcats and the Cardinals.

Week 8 – Home vs Georgetown Print E-mail
Saturday, 18 October 2008

This was a long week of preparation for our game against Georgetown. Since we only had one game this weekend, we had an extra day of practice which helped us on getting ready to face one more Big East challenge. We all know that from now on, every game and every point will make the difference on making the Big East tournament or not. In the locker room before the game started, we prepared both mentally and physically for the game. Mollie brought in a CD with a speech from “Any Given Sunday” by Al Pacino in which he talked about fighting for every inch on the field. The speech was towards football but we could easily relate to the volleyball game.
